This year the official inductees are Rusty Wallace, Buck Baker, Herb Thomas, Cotton Owens and Leonard Wood. The public is invited to participate in this fan-friendly weeklong celebration by purchasing tickets to hear Inductees speak, obtain autographs, watch drivers stroll down the red carpet, have lunch with a legendary driver, observe the jacket ceremony, and be one of the first people to see the new Inductees in the Hall of Honor Exhibits. Tickets go on sale in January.

The Mint Museum UPTOWN is one of several important museums and theaters located on the Levine Center for the Arts campus in center city, Charlotte. In addition to the three permanent exhibitions on display in the 145,000-square-foot facility, the museum will welcome four new exhibitions in 2013. The first exhibit, titled “Sociales: Débora Arango Arrives Today,” will open Feb. 23 and run to June 16, featuring modern Colombia artist Débora Arango. The second exhibit “Return to the Sea: Saltworks by Motoi Yamamoto” will be on display March 2 to May 26, followed by “F.O.O.D. (Food, Objects, Objectives, Design)” from March 2 to July 7. Finally, “Inventing the Modern: Decorative Arts at the World’s Fairs 1851-1939” will Exhibit from Sept. 21 to Jan. 19. All special exhibits require additional tickets.

This unique museum is one of only four dedicated to photography in the country. In addition to classes and weekly events, the Light Factory has two special exhibits coming 2013. The first one titled “Connected There but Not Always Here” will show Jan. 29 to May 19, and will focus on the most popular forms of social networking and how people react to them. The second exhibit “Wired: a Student Exchange” will show from Feb. 5 to May 12. It will explore the feelings of today’s youth as they grow up in an age of information overload.

Price: freeThe Billy Graham Museum is a peaceful place, nestled on 20 acres in a park-like setting just outside of the downtown Charlotte area. Visitors may tour the multimedia exhibits and kiosks, reflect in the prayer garden, or view Graham’s life in pictures and video throughout the farm-shaped museum. In 2013, the faith-based museum will welcome special exhibits including “How Sweet The Sound: A Tribute to George Beverly Shea” from Feb. 1 to March 31 and “Rooted in Prayer: Biblical Truths for Everyday Living” from May 1 to June 30. Price: free/$5 donation requestedLocated next to the North Carolina Dance Theater, this nationally acclaimed art complex houses nine artist studios, open studios, community outreaches and workshops in a historically unique 5,000-square-foot Neo-gothic church building. This season, the McColl Center will feature the “Connectivity” exhibit highlighting nine artists and curated by Cynthia-Reeves. It will also host the “Currencies: Real and Imagined” exhibit featuring six alumni artists from Core Visual Art. Connectivity will run from April 26 to June 15. Currencies will run from June 28 to Aug. 17.
